We're Here!!

Hello from Washington D.C.! (Well, technically Leesburg, VA). After 14 hours of driving and an overnight stay  in Steubenville, Ohio, Leslie Chris and I have arrived!! I'm pretty exhausted and heading to bed soon, but wanted to post an update!

It's been an incredible journey so far and it's only been 2 days! Leslie and Chris are 2 other interns who are also from St. Louis and both go to Truman. St. Louis being the way it is, we had met each other before and all made the drive together. Chris and Leslie both brought their cars, and though the plan was for me to switch between the cars to give driving breaks, I ended up driving with Leslie the entire way out. We had a great time chatting and the time flew!

We arrived in the DC area at around 4pm, dropped our stuff off at our host family's house in Leesburg, and headed to Annandale, VA, for the welcome BBQ. There we met the other 4 interns and the Students for Life staff. I can tell this is going to be a great summer. We start tomorrow with our orientation at the SFLA headquarters in Manassas, VA, at 9:30. The very next day Leslie and I will be trekking it to Capitol Hill to work with Congressman Andy Harris!! (1st district of Maryland)

Here's the brief breakdown of my summer:
-3 weeks with Andy Harris in the Cannon House Building
-3 weeks with Students for Life of America in Manassas, VA
-another 3 weeks with Students for Life (unless I can join Leslie where she was placed at CareNet, a pregnancy resource center..I'm going to ask about that tomorrow. I would love to have that experience to round out the internship!)

Although we moved our stuff in at around 4, we didn't meet the couple that is hosting us this summer until after the BBQ. The Whalens are a Catholic couple with 5 children and 9 grandchildren, and a beautiful home. Leslie and I each get our own rooms and our bathroom has 2 sinks! When I texted my mom a picture she said "you won't ever come home now Cathy!" ha.

Quote of the day: "Dear God, thank you for thinking up such beautiful things." (from a prayer card under the bathroom mirror at the family's house in Steubenville we stayed at)

So thankful to be here! Goodnight everyone!

P.S. Nola (the host family's dog I was so excited about) is adorable. That's all!
